Format of data files

The data for each of the 404 parishes is contained in an Excel spreadsheet. Within each spreadsheet there are 13 worksheets as follows:

• nine containing the final version of the monthly baptism, marriage and burial counts used by E.A. Wrigley and R.S. Schofield, aggregated by single years, decades and half-centuries
• three containing the original monthly baptism, marriage and burial counts as recorded in the parish register
• one listing the periods of ‘crisis’ mortality recorded in the register

Each worksheet (apart from that dealing with ‘crisis’ mortality) is a rectangular table with years (or decades or half-centuries) as the rows and the months of the year as columns (see below).

The final data differ from the original data because of corrections made by Wrigley and Schofield, as explained in Parish Register Aggregate Analyses.
